  • After beating the number 1 team (twice now) the team felt confident that they could take on anyone, but Varsity Club had a different opinion. Enter Varsity Club KB. The game started off with a shoot out. BP-GRC managed to get an early out, but Varsity Club KB rallied and loaded the bases for their big gun. A shot from the lefty sent a ball soaring into the spectators in right field and hit a woman holding her child. (Editors note - The woman and her child are ok) Normally this is a ground rule double, but in this game something was different. .. it was ruled a ground rule triple. I guess the sun started getting to the man behind the plate. Rebounding from the shenanigans, BP-GRC pulled together their composure and got the final two outs leaving the top of the first 4-0. In the bottom of the inning, hits from Slavenator, Tranq, Cubby Bear, Deglish and a sacrifice from Grinder put 4 runs up for BP-GRC. Score 4-4. Then the scoring stopped. Strong defense from both sides held the score within two runs until through the fifth. Entering the fifth the score was 5-6. BP-GRC was confident they could make up the difference, but the KB Toy Store had different plans. Loading the bases a hit was sent into right field. A runner scored, but there was a close play at third and Wronger tagged the runner out. 'Time out' was called and the umpire ruled the runner safe. Dirt was kicked and hearts were crushed, 'You can't call time out in the middle of a play!'. Varsity Club KB gained momentum and expanded their lead. Another shot into the field in right yielded a ground rule double and the runner on first tried to walk in home. Once again controversy rattled the BP-GRC and dirt was kicked up. 'I'm not going back to third unless the ump tells me to' was shouted from the bench of Varsity Club KB. The comeback from BP-GRC, 'Oh yeah?!?!' One could tell the BP-GRC were at their wits end and had quite a hole to dig out of. Going into the bottom of the 7th the score was 12 to 8 in favor of the Varsity Club Kry Babies. Could we see heroics again? A 7th inning comeback? A hit from Tranq, followed by hits from Cubby Bear and Denglish started the momentum, but then just like getting hit in the back by a fly ball in right field, the momentum ended. BP-GRC put one more run on the board with a sacrifice from Grinder and left the game with a loss. Final score 12-9.
