From the first pitch, the BP-GRC were not going to give an inch to 'Varsity Club /DA'. The first two batters to the plate, 'Slavenator' and 'Grinder', both pulled walks and an eye roll from the pitcher. 'It's going to be one of those games' was muttered from the disgruntled pitcher. Whines and moans from the opposition could not derail BP-GRC, as a home run blast from 'Tranq' put three runs up on the board. From there, the defense of the BP-GRC stepped it up. A strong blast from Varsity Club DA into deep center field ensured an easy score from the runner at second. A blazing relay from Tranq, to Denglish to Slavenator (covering home) beat a head first dive from the runner and ensured a scoreless innings. 'Let the girls play', was moaned from the opposition, but the relay took us out of the inning and left the score 3-0. In the following innings, a triple by Tummy and a walk by Tranq followed by a clutch two out hit from Denglish secured two more runs for the BP-GRC, but it would not be enough to hold off Varsity Club DA. Reaching deep in the order, Varsity Club DA came out swinging and running. Hitting gaps and finding the holes in the defense they put up 6 runs in the 3rd inning. Two diving catches in the outfield is all that could bring the inning to a close. At the end of 3, it was BP-GRC 5 and Varsity Club DA 7. Down by two runs the game was far from over. The fifth inning saw a run from each side cross the plate. Score 8-6. Then the sixth, with an inspirational talk from our Bat Boy (yes, we have achieved major league status with a bat boy) we put up monster hits from Pesicka and Bruiser that tied up the game, 8-8. Going into the 7th inning it was anybody's game. The defense from the BP-GRC stepped it up one more time and sent it to the bottom of the 7th tied 8-8. . .and Tranq was the first up. A double, followed by a shot from Wronger put the winning run on third with nobody out. You could almost taste the victory, but the next two batters failed to deliver. Enter the mighty Pesicka. Pitch number 1, ball. Pitch number two, Jack settled deep in his stance and pulled one. .. foul. Count was in favor of DA. Could this be extra innings? Not if Pesicka could say anything about it. The fourth pitch was in his zone and Pesicka sent a liner over the second baseman's head to secure the win. BP-GRC WIN! 'There goes our season' was muttered from Varsity Club DA's coach and BP-GRC began to prepare for game two.
