Game Summary :Well, bite my butt and call me an apple. You would not believe the level of play that was displayed on the softball diamonds last night. It was as if it was a scene right out of the movies as the Byrne's Pub Goat Rodeo Cowboy's could feel their destiny leading them to the play-offs. The team came out swinging (and walking) in Game One and easily took down Team Hell for a second time this season. But as the newly attired Varsity Club DA strode onto the field, Coach Slaven knew the team was due for a pep talk.
As Coach Slaven got up off the bench we heard someone yell, "Phew! Until you did that, I couldn't tell if you were... drunk or dead." With a stern look, Coach Slaven hushed the crowd and began his pre-game pep talk. "All right, everyone, let's listen up now, listen up," Coach Slaven yelled. "Something important has just happened. I was in the toilet reading my contract, and it turns out, I get a bonus when we get to the World Series. So, let's play hard, let's play smart, use your heads."
And with those words of encouragement the BPGRC's took to the field, but not before over-hearing their opponenets pep talk as well. Their coach simply had one short sentence to say to his team, "Okay, let's make like a bread truck and haul buns ladies!"
And so the battle began. The game played out as a tough pitchers duel and, surprisingly, tempers only flared once or twice and in those rare occasions, it was mainly a battle between the batters and the umpire. Repeatedly Coach Slaven would yell, "That was clearly inside. That was a ball." And the umpire would always replay snidely, "Listen, yesterday that was a ball, tomorrow it might be a ball, but today it's a strike."
The game played on and to the BPGRC's excitement and amazement they started to think "We can win this! My god we could actually win this game!!" But just as that joyous thought crossed their minds, they heard the VCDA Coach spring to action. He yelled to his team, "It was made very clear to me what I'm supposed to do here. I smile, wave my little hat... I did that, so when do I get paid? When will my team come through for me?" And as the fear rippled through the infield, VCDA began to pull together.
The BPGRC's saw their victory slipping away, but in one last ditch strategic effort Tarsh came up with a plan. Tarsh suggested, "What if at a key moment in the game my, my uniform bursts open and, uh, oops!, my bosoms come flying out? That, that might draw a crowd, right?" To which The Wall replied, "You think there are men in this country who ain't seen your bosoms?" And with that, the BPGRC's knew they were out of ideas.
The BPGRC's played hard and tough and no one was disappointed with the effort put forth in this last lost. In fact, the level of play seemed to motivate the team like no other. Everyone there seemed ready to fight one more time, fight as hard as they could, and beat VCDA next week for a spot in Champ of Champs. We hope to see all our fans out again for our play-off games as you all seemed to bring us good luck!
