And so the season ends. The Byrne's Pub Goat Rodeo Cowboys enjoyed another fun season... and another play-off appearance. Unfortunately, they missed the chance at the Champ of Champs yet again... but they still had fun on the ride!

Deep Thoughts by Jack Footey

Before you criticize the umpire, you should walk a mile in his shoes. That way, when you criticize him, you're a mile away and you have his shoes.

Is there anything more beautiful than a girl who has just hit a beautiful, beautiful softball hit and she is running around the beautiful softball field? And as she runs the bases she's carrying a beautiful rose in her teeth, and also she's carrying a very beautiful painting. And also, you're drunk.

It's funny that softball players are always running the bases searching for victory, and they never realized that the real victory was the fond memories they were creating.

Probably the earliest softball bats were nothing more than some sort of striking surface attached to the end of a long stick.

I bet one legend that keeps recurring throughout history, in every culture, is the story of Spanks.

We tend to scoff at the beliefs of the umpires. But we can't scoff at them personally, to their faces, and this is what annoys me.

If you're a young softball player out on your first date, I bet it's real embarrassing if someone tries to strike you out.

Instead of having 'runs' in a softball game, they should just call them 'attempts to score' and in the end if you all end up with different 'attempts to score' so what, can't we all be brothers?

As we were playing, we saw a sign that said "No Alcohol Allowed at Park." Chaser said it should read "No Alcohol Allowed at Park Except when Playing Softball." I told her she should write in her suggestion to the Parks & Rec department, but she started saying it was a joke - just to get out of writing a simple letter! And I thought I was lazy!

I wish I would have a real depressing softball season and get so bummed out that I'd just quit my job and become a bum for a few years, because I was thinking about doing that anyway.

It's easy to sit there and say you'd like to have more hits. And I guess that's what I like about it. It's easy. Just sitting there, rocking back and forth, wanting that hit.

Deep Thoughts by Jack Footey
It takes a big man to walk in softball, but it takes a bigger man to heckle that man.

Maybe in order to understand softball, we have to look at the word itself: "Softball". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "Sof" and "tball". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is softball.

To me, softball is like a ballet, except there's no music, no choreography, and the whole thing hinges on if the dancers can hit each other.

If bases could scream, would we be so cavalier about stepping on them? We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason.

The memories of Byrne's Pub Softball games are still a source of strength to me. I remember we'd all pile into the car - I forget what kind it was and drive to the field. I'm not sure where it was, but I think there were some trees there. The smell of something was strong in the air as we played whatever sport we played. I remember a bigger, older guy we called "Santa." We'd hit some stuff, or not, and then I think we went somewhere with beer. I guess some things never leave you.

If you saw two guys named Hambone and Baller, which one would you think liked softball the most? I'd say Baller, wouldn't you? You'd be wrong, though. It's Hambone.

Children need encouragement. If a kid gets on base in softball, tell him it was a lucky hit. That way he develops a good, lucky feeling.

The face of Tarsh can say it all, especially the mouth part of the face.

I think the mistake a lot of us make is thinking the league-appointed umpire is our friend.

If you ever reach total enlightenment while drinking beer, I bet you could shoot beer out of you nose.

I hope if softball players ever take over the world, and they chose a king, they don't just go by who can hit the farthest, because I bet there are some really bad hitters with some good ideas.
