Game Summary:
Baseball, it is said, is only a game. True. And the Grand Canyon is only a hole in Arizona. ~George F. Will, Men at Work: The Craft of Baseball, 1990

The day was Thursday, June 19, 2008 and it was opposite day....

On opposite day, there is no worry about fielding an entire team. In fact, subs were volunteering weeks in advance to play for the BPGRC's for this game.

On opposite day, all the players show up early, and there is never a worry that traffic would hold someone up (or more importantly hold the beer up!)

On opposite day, the ump is friendly and all call's go Byrne's Pub way... along with the call to ignore the beer drinking on the sideline.

On opposite day, everyone bats amazingly well.

On opposite day, Hammer doesn't wear a hat and PYT doesn't wear pants.

On opposite day, our pitcher doesn't give up one walk and the opposing batters swing at every pitch.

On opposite day, the BPGRC's never have that one inning defensively that puts the game out of reach. Oh, the glory of opposite day.

On opposite day, Spanks doesn't sweat, Tarsh doesn't burp and Tree doesn't tell the jelly vs. jam joke.... well maybe not... even opposite day couldn't prevent that from happening!

And lastly, on opposite day, the BPGRC's run rule their opponent to win the game!! Byrne's Pub Wins!! Hooray for opposite day!!

Game Summary:
Well, boys, it's a round ball and a round bat and you got to hit the ball square. ~Joe Schultz, 1969

The top ten rec softball rules that make winning hard for the Goat Rodeo Cowboys.

1. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed at the softball fields. ~ All this sneaking around is getting tiring.
2. Shoes must be worn by all players. ~ It is impossible to believe how much better we would be if only Traveling Dan could wear bright yellow Speedo flip flops.
3. Run Spread Rule: 15 runs after 4 innings or 10 runs after 5 innings. ~If only we had a little more time to mount our comeback!
4. No “trapper” type mitts are allowed except for catchers and first basemen. ~Ahh... the good old days when we all had trappers.
5. Pitches must have an arc no less than 6 feet and no more than 12. ~All of our bowling skills perfected in the off season are a complete waste!
6. A base runner coming into contact with a hit ball is out. ~I can't even count how many outs we have lost because players being hit by a bad throw do not also count as outs.
7. Each batter starts with the count 1 ball and 1 strike. ~I think it's only fair that each batter on the opposing team start with 3 strikes.
8. Any equipment or uniform deemed dangerous or offensive must be removed. ~How can we bring the heat if it's deemed too dangerous?
9. No bunting is allowed. Any bunting action (determined by the umpires) will result in an automatic out. ~When so many of our actual hits appear to be bunts how can we ever get any base runners?
10. Fake tags are illegal, and may result in an ejection. ~Does anyone have real tags anymore?
